Research Projects: The Hospitalization of Nursing Facility Residents

Purpose of Project:

This study will examine factors that affect hospitalization rates among nursing home residents. We will use expert clinical review to identify hospitalizations as avoidable or unavoidable, and will examine the factors that affect each type of hospitalization. Factors to be considered include resident characteristics, quality of care indicators, facility staffing, staffing and other facility resources, philosophies of care, and resources available in the community.
