WISCONSIN CODES PROJECT EMERGENCY ROOM/DEPARTMENT INJURY REPORTS(new for 2002)These reports are designed to provide interested parties with a basic overview of injuries occurring in their communities and in Wisconsin, in a given year. Sources of Data The information on the attached pages comes from Emergency Room data collected by the Bureau of Health Information within the Department of Health and Family Services in Wisconsin. These data have information related to injury severity added to them (obtained using ICDMAP-90 software, which is based on injury severity scores developed by the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine in the 1960s and updated through the present time). Additionally, E-Codes have been categorized utilizing a scheme developed by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, and published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly in 1997 (for the NCIPC Report, go to: ftp://ftp.cdc.gov/pub/Publications/mmwr/rr/rr4614.pdf ). For detailed information on the categorization of cause of injury, please see this report (Adobe Acrobat is required to read it). How to Interpret the Data: · Cases are Emergency Room visits only. · Charges are for the ER visit only · The percentages provided in Table 5 are the percent of a cause of injury in a given age group. · Max Severity is the maximum AIS90 (Abbreviated Injury Score --1990 coding) for any body region as a result of the injury. The scale is: 1=Minor 2=Moderate 3=Serious 4=Severe 5=Critical 6=Maximum Table 1: Cause of Injury 2002 Table 2: Underlying Intent of Injury 2002 Table 3: Intent of Injury By Cause 2002 Table 4: Cause by Age Group – Number 2002 Table 5: Cause by Age Group – Percent 2002 |
