Researchers at the Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis (CHSRA) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seek to improve long-term care and other health systems through a variety of activities. CHSRA researchers:

  • Conduct health systems research to improve the delivery, quality, and payment of care at local, state, and national levels.
  • Focus on six major areas:
    1. Performance measurement,
    2. Quality and process improvement,
    3. Reimbursement and payment systems,
    4. Program evaluation,
    5. Decision making, and
    6. Patient/consumer education and support.
  • Develop and evaluate health information systems and databases for use by consumers, providers, policy makers, and regulators.
  • Address issues across the health care spectrum, with specialties in long-term care, accident epidemiology, substance addiction, and cancer communication.

CHSRA research and development projects serve a variety of audiences, including:

  • Long-term care and health care providers
  • Consumers
  • Policy makers
  • Resident/patient advocates
  • Regulatory agencies
  • Local, state, and federal governments

The staff at CHSRA bring expertise in numerous areas, including health services research, industrial engineering, actuarial science, sociology, social work, nursing, pharmacy, psychology, quality assurance, health care regulation and information technology. The ability to draw upon so many disciplines is one of CHSRA's greatest strengths, helping to ensure products that are not only technically strong but also conceptually meaningful and useful to the client.
